Chapter 3  Installing and removing Excel Serve

3.1  System Requirement

3.1.1   Server -- Enterprise Edition

²         Supported Operating Systems:  Microsoft Windows® 2000 Professional SP2,     Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP2, 

                                                            or Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Windows 2003 server or higher edition  

²         IE 6.0: Installation program will automatically check your IE version. If it is lower than version 5.5, please upgrade it

²         Database: The free desktop database MSDE will be installed with the BC Excel Server. However, SQL Server 2000 or 

                         above is recommended.

²         CPU: A desktop computer with a at least PIII class processor, 800 MHz or faster

²         Memory: At least 96 MB (128 MB recommended) memory for Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional 

                      192 MB (256 MB recommended) memory for Windows 2000 Server.

²         Disk space: At least 100 MB hard disk space

²         Display: VGA or higher-resolution monitor. A Super VGA (800 x 600 or larger) monitor is recommended. Mouse or compatible

                      pointing device  

²         BC Excel Server: Excel Server Enterprise Edition Server program (or completed installing) of BC Excel Server 8.4(or above) 

                                   must be installed

²         IIS: MS Internet Information Server (IIS) must be installed before the installing of the BC Excel Server

²         MS Excel: Excel of MS Office pack must be installing of the BC Excel Server

3.1.2   Client Terminal -- Enterprise Edition

Ø        Supported Operating Systems Microsoft Windows® 2000 Professional SP2, Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP2, or

                                                            Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Windows 2003 server or higher edition  

Ø        IE 6.0: Installation program will automatically check your IE version. If it is lower than version 5.5, please upgrade it

Ø        Database: The free desktop database MSDE will be installed with the BC Excel Server. However, SQL Server 2000 or 

                         above recommended.

Ø        CPU: A desktop computer with a at least PIII class processor, 800 MHz or faster

Ø        WAN ( make sure the port 1433 is open for BC Excel Server )

 

3.1.3   Server  -- Standard Edition

3.1.4 Client Terminal  ---Standard Edition

3.2  Installation

The installation is similar as every simple and automatically operatic desktop tool that there is no more burdensome process during the installation.

 To be ready, turn to the following step:

1) Extract file by clicking 'setup.exe' in the excel server package

2) Click “Next” when the setup window’s loaded.

3) License statement: click [Yes] -> [Next]

4) Choose the target directory for the program

5) Normally, two types would be given in the installation.

²        "Client side installation" is about the install client side features, 'Excel server Management Console' and 'help'. It works only at client side

        and requires the Excel Server connection.

 

²        "Both Client side and Server side" is link to install client side features, 'Excel server Management Console', 'Help' and 'Database'. It allows

        users to use without server connection. 

 

²        When the excel link to the bar of the server side, it might be the haleness of without server connection. To help the single position to bean, 

       that u might be the world. To see is to believe

6) Starting to copy files

7) Installing or connect to the database

The administrator’s user name and password of the database ( If the other database have not been set up in the local PC or server, then the

 “sa” will be the user name and password of MSDE) will be request in the step. The user name and password should be the same as the one

the user built in the installation of database.

6) The installation has been done once the following window is shown. By then, the Excel Server has been release to the PC, the adventure is

     started from now.

Once the installation has been completed, the following main components would been shown. If the installation in connect to the enterprise edition, 

then a file named “ESWEB” should exist in the Excel Server components folder as well.

3.3  ES Management Console

3.3.1 Overview

After installing the BC Excel Server, you should achieve a server tool named ‘ES Management Console’ , a Client named ‘My Workbench’ and a service 

manager tool( In enterprise edition, ESWeb is also released into the pack). ES Management Console is the central system management platform. The

 console is covering the organization setting, permission appointment, data maintenance, templates management and security administration. It will be

 operated via system administrator

3.3.2   Login ES Management Console

Select the ‘Management Console’ of the BC Excel Server pack and enter the name and password of the administrator to login. The default user name is

 ‘admin’, password is empty. There is a demo system sealed in Example Database of Excel Server for user to study. To login it, it is simply to tick "load 

Example Database" as below to connect with the database. User name is "admin", password is empty.

3.3.3   Main Components of Management Console

The basic management console is below (see Figure 3.3.3 ) It mainly included the classes:

Ø        Organization: A body of the company, which is addressed to design in BC Excel Server. It mainly includes two thing: one is ‘Global Information’ 

       that is the section for you to address the information in organization include address, telephone, email etc. of the organization. The other one is

       department, which is the branches of a organization

Ø         Role: Role is considered as the position in a company as well as refer to certain responsibility at the organization e.g. Manager, CEO. Roles and 

      department are relevant. Hence, setting up the propose roles for each department is necessary.  All the employees with the same role could share 

      the common Excel template or reports. They are used at the stage of building a report

Ø         User: User is the logic login of people who exist in BC Excel Server

Ø         Report Classification: Classify the report built in Excel Client.

Ø         Data Type: The data type is an attribute that specifies the type of data that the object can hold: integer data, character data, monetary data, date

       and time data, binary strings, and so on. In BC Excel Server, it provide Attachment, Char, Date, Decimal, Integer, Long Text, Money, Name, Picture, 

       Price, SysAutoNumbering.

Ø         Input Criteria: Input Criteria is used for limiting the selectable data range for the data cells.

Ø         Templates: To maintain the report and data of the template

Ø        External Data: BC Excel Server 2008 has provided a interface to import, integrate and operate the external data (for BC Excel Server, the database 

       from the other system might be considered as an external data). BC Excel Server currently supports the following external database source:

       MS SQL Server, Oracle, Access, Sybase, Mysql, and Informix.

Ø        Event Viewer: Data Viewer is the option for system administrator to check every logs of Excel Server. There are three functions: Normal Operation,

       Error Log, Backup

Ø         Backup and Restore: The database backup and restore is recommended as normal system maintenance. In BC Excel Server, the system administrator

      is expected to backup and restore the database via ES Management Console platform due to Management Console is able to offer the simply way and

       fast way to achieve the goal

3.3.4   Terminate over limits

Step 1: The error reminding window below is it show you that your login have been over 5 users in trial version. If you meet the same error reminding, 

then go to step 2

Step 2: Login ES Management Console window, click the “Connections” menu. You will see that system has recorded every time the user had signed in

 at the right side.

Step 3: Click the right key of your mouse to terminate the user in active:

3.4  Excel Server Client

In Standard Edition, the client (My Workbench) is in component of the Excel Server Standard Edition pack. The tool is roll in the C/S structure. In

 Enterprise Edition, the client includes the client tool (My Workbench) as well as the ESWeb which is the web client applied in WAN via browse

 with the B/S structure.

The My Workbench is for user to design templates and fill, delete, update, query reports.

3.5  Service Manager

The component is for connecting the database with Excel Server. It is a kind of the service of windows. The “Server Manager” should be activated 

before running the Excel Server.

Besides, “ESService” would be the name in Windows’ Service Management Component.

3.6  ESWEB

There is a special component named ESWeb in Enterprise Edition of BC Excel Server. It is the software's client sides in B/S structure. Enterprise Edition

provide a web browse function for user to login and work in BC Excel Server by supporting the protocol of WAN. ESWeb is only for the terminal user to

work but used to design templates.

The same of the Excel Client, the files area is designed in the left low and the work area is in the right hand scenes. Designer is allowed to change the

web page or setting to his own style. The processing is operated via web.config

3.7  Removing

The operation of removing of BC Excel Server is the same as every tools, the normal operation is:

1) Check the exist Excel Server from Control Panel. Click "Control Panel" -> "Add/Remove Programs" -> "Excel Server".

2) Click “Remove” section

3) Click “ok” to continue the removing

 

4) The question about the database removing would be asked in the next step. “Yes” to hold the database, “no” for removing.

5) To finished the removing step, the restarting computer would be request
